Important Updates and Notices

PDF Advice for the Course Proposal Form
Some faculty have found difficulty loading their syllabi as PDFs to the Course Proposal Form. The problem remains that creating a syllabus as a Google doc and turning that doc into a PDF seems to scramble all your work. It is unreadable when attached to the UGCC Course Proposal Form. The Workaround: Create your syllabus in Google docs and then save as a download to your computer. Open and turn into a PDF and attach to the form. All will work fine!
Syllabi Statements for AY 2025-2025
Please note, the required Syllabi Statements for AY 2025-2026 will be available in the Fall. They are required in all new submissions, revisions, and active iterations of existing courses.
UGCC Recommendation: Please make use of the College’s Academic Activity Estimator
All faculty submitting New Course Proposals or Revising Existing Courses are STRONGLY ADVISED to make use of the College’s Academic Activity Calculator.
Your School UGCC reps will assist you prior to final course proposal submission. Courses that incorporate the completed PDF confirmation from the College’s Academic Activity Estimator into their PDF syllabus submission will benefit from far speedier consideration by UGCC members.
In due course, UGCC has been informed that the College’s Academic Activity Estimator will become part of all course proposal and amendment submissions. For now, this notification remains a strong "recommendation."
College Learning Outcomes (CLOs) versus Veritas Course Outcomes PDF
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Course Proposal Form accessible from both the Veritas and UGCC sites (below) has been the cause of some confusion for faculty. UGCC wishes to clarify the information requested on the form. Veritas and UGCC both refer to the College Learning Outcomes (CLOs), which should be addressed appropriately in all syllabi. In addition, when faculty tick the box asking if the proposal is intended for Veritas approval, a new box appears. This box asks for the relevant information about how specific Course Outcomes, as opposed to CLOs, are associated with assessment opportunities in the syllabus (essays, tests, exams, etc.). Unlike the five CLOs, there are eight Veritas course outcomes. The course proposal form asks all faculty proposing or amending a Veritas course to consider these course items, and associate at least four Intellectual and Practical Skills and one of the Personal and Social Responsibility Values to their respective assignments. It is imperative that faculty recognize the difference between Colllege Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (associated only with Veritas courses).

The templates and processes are for new programs, discontinuances, and program modifications, and follow the guidelines outlined in the Faculty Handbook. The Faculty Handbook notes that faculty are part of a shared governance structure, including long-range curriculum planning and academic program approvals. These resources are intended to assist faculty in gathering complete and helpful information to ensure these processes run smoothly.
