Favorite or most influencial books:
1. Watchmen by Alan Moore
Call Number: Popular Reading MOO
ISBN: 1401219268
Publication Date: 2008
The best graphic novel ever written. Ever. There is a ton of thought provoking material in this book. It was drawn by Dave Gibbons from excruciatingly detailed outlines from Moore. Most of Moore’s comic book material has been made into movies, but he refuses to let his name be associated with them. The movie for Watchmen does not do the book justice.
2. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Call Number: PS3537.T3234 E3 2002
ISBN: 0142000655
Publication Date: 2002
My favorite Steinbeck.
3. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
Call Number: CT275.E37 A3 2001
ISBN: 0375725784
Publication Date: 2001
One of my favorite authors. This is his autobiography and despite his young age at the time (28) he has quite a lot to say. His newer books are also good reading.
4. Microserfs by Douglas Coupland
Call Number: PS3553.O855 M53 2008x
ISBN: 0061624268
Publication Date: 2008
This book helped define Generation X, along with his previous novel, Generation X. It’s also very funny.
5. Burmese Days by George Orwell
ISBN: 1849023743
I enjoy pretty much all of Orwell’s work, but this one really sticks out for me.
What are you reading now?
I’m re-reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy along with the History of Middle-Earth books that track its development which are edited by Tokien’s son, Christopher.
Desert Island Pick
I would take Lord of the Rings: there is plenty of material there to think about for years.
