Girls Like Us: Fighting for a World Where Girls Are Not for Sale : A Memoir - Rachel Lloyd
Call Number: Popular Reading LLO
ISBN: 0061582069
Publication Date: 2012
"A rough but very compelling read, this firsthand account of the human trafficking industry will open your eyes, raise your ire, and grab your heart."--Laura Hoelter

Thinking Small: The Long, Strange Trip of the Volkswagen Beetle - Andrea Hiott
Call Number: TL215.V618 H56 2012
ISBN: 0345521420
Publication Date: 2012
"This book will make driving my 1969 Bug this summer even more enjoyable as it uncovered aspects to the VW's ironic and iconic past, which is filled with troubling connections to Hitler, WWII, and forced labor but also is filled with redemption, forgiveness, and ingenuity. This car unlike any other fostered a culture and a following, and this book attempts to explain why. Honk if you see me - slug bug - no backs!"--Heidi Johnson

Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles, bk 1) - Patrick Rothfuss
Call Number: Popular Reading ROT
ISBN: 075640407X
Publication Date: 2007
"When I read fiction I generally lean heavily towards fantasy/sci fi. Tolkien, Lewis, Heinlein, and Adams have always topped my list of favorite authors. Well guys, make room for Rothfuss. Name of the Wind is the first of a trilogy that tells the story of a young boy who yearns to master the magic arts. Kvothe is orphaned while traveling with a music/drama troupe his family is part of. After years of living on the streets he attempts to gain entrance into the prestigious University, where magic is studied as much as a science as it is an art. Rothfuss has certainly joined the fantasy elite with the Kingkiller Chronicles. Do yourself a favor and get to know Kvothe this summer."--Kevin McGrew

Illuminations - Arthur Rimbaud
Call Number: Popular Reading RIM
ISBN: 0393076350
Publication Date: 2011
"This book of French poetry is my choice because I was able to challenge my comprehension of the language by reading a poem in French on one page, then comparing my translation with the English version on the next. I found Rimbaud's poems to be both strange, yet beautiful."--Gail Olsen

Arguably: Essays - Christopher Hitchens
Call Number: PN4874.H52 A5 2011
ISBN: 1455502774
Publication Date: 2011
"An excellent collection of essays by the late Hitchens. Although I often do not agree with him, I am bowled over by his command of the language and hugely entertained by his caustic wit."--Brad Snelling
